Pikitup, the waste management entity of the City of Johannesburg, continues to render waste collection services during the lockdown period and will also continue during the Easer Holidays.
Residents are reminded that in areas experiencing waste collection backlogs such as Roodepoort, scheduled waste collection for Friday, 10 April 2020, will be serviced on Saturday, April 11 2020, and it is anticipated that the depot will service all backlogs areas by Sunday, 12 April 2020. The same process will be followed with respect to depots that are experiencing waste collection backlogs.
In an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, Pikitup employees are provided with protective clothing during this period. Residents are urge to also practice extra caution when handling their 240L bins to ensure that is protected. Waste plastic bags should be tied at all times.
Residents are also reminded that Pikitup’s garden sites in all the seven regions of the City will open during the Easter holidays. Residents can use these facilities to dispose excess waste and recyclables. To locate a garden site please visit www.pikitup.co.za or call the nearest Pikitup depot.
Residents are also advised to be on the lookout for fake news. All official communication during the lockdown period is issued by the City of Johannesburg’s Group Communications Department on its official letter head, through official social media accounts and councillors where necessary.
Residents are urged to disregard all communication pertaining to Pikitup that comes from other sources except the City of Johannesburg.
