Swallows FC back to Promised Land

After 5 years away from the premier soccer league top division, with an era that was marred by sporting and financial mismanagement, Swallows Football Club finally claimed a spot in the premier soccer league. Swallows FC were relegated during the 2014 -15 season and amid severe financial strain that saw them dropping down to the third tier and have come agonizingly close at the playoffs over the last few seasons. The Dube birds as the team is affectionately known by many, soared back to the promised land after they sealed redemption following a heartbreaking defeat to Ajax Cape Town.
Their long-awaited return to top flight football completes a turbulent journey that saw them become a laughing stock when they languished in the third-tier obscurity. While it remains to be seen how Swallows FC will fare in the Premier Soccer League next season, for now the fans of the club can rejoice and revel at the remarkable achievement.
Fans may not be allowed inside football stadiums currently but that did not stop swallows FC supporters flocking to social media to post comments just after the game. Thousands of Swallows fans have reacted to the good news, with most if not all of them thanking their team and management for their role in bringing back the beloved Soweto giants to the elite league. “Swallows are back in the league and thanks to chairman Mr Panyaza Lesufi for his persistence. Some fans envisioned that: “Our management should purchase quality players or else our team will be a laughing stock at the end of this season again.”
