Tsalanang Games get a Head Start

The wait for Soweto’s biggest annual tournament came to an finality on Wednesday March 20th, when Hollywood bets together with Score energy drink in partnership with the Tsalanang tournament organizers, officially launched the 2021 edition of the Tsalanang games in Braamfischerville. The soccer spectacle dates back to 2014 and has become one of the most anticipated sporting events, with people from across the provinces showing up to cheer their respective teams.

As the hub of football talent, the tournament gives aspiring soccer players much needed exposure to tell their stories through the beautiful game. A glut of talent previously graced the tournament, as the Tsalanang annual tournament became a dream destination of every aspiring professional football player.

Speaking at the official launch, founder Solomon Leshabane, stated that the tournament is basically a celebration of the finest sport teams in the country, all of which will be competing against one another to lift the Tsalanang trophy and become the best football team in the Gauteng province. “The stage has been set, and we are looking forward to all the action. May the best team win,” enthused Leshabane.

The ceremony to mark the opening of the popular annual event was attended by team managers, sponsors, legends including Maimane Phiri and Mike Ntombela, as well as a host of media personalities. Echoing the sentiments after the launch legend Maimane Phiri, hailed Leshabane’s efforts in growing the beautiful game. “I’ve never graced this tournament before but I’m quite impressed with the tournament organizers. Amongst the crowds will be scouts from professional football teams hoping to spot raw and promising talent.

A total of 32 teams went into the draw and there were some exciting draws within the teams igniting a scene for another bumper tournament. The eye-catching tournament will keep the football lovers entertained from the 20th of March to the 5th of April, at the well maintained multi purpose grounds in Soweto. The winning soccer team will walk away with a lucrative R100 000, a trophy, gold medals and soccer kits. The runner-up will receive R20 000, silver medals and soccer kits whilst the cash price of R5 000 awaits the third and fourth spot teams respectively.
