Soccer legend launches own restaurant

Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is bating his way into the food service industry with a new restaurant venture called ‘Grootman’. Having completed a successful 12-year career in the Premier Soccer league, the 44 year old won the hearts of football fans with his electrifying skills, during which he captained the Buccaneers to a famous double treble.
The ex bucs skipper announced the grand opening of Grootman restaurant in a media launch,recently. The restaurant is located in the heart of Klitptwon,Soweto.
During the opening ceremony, Lekgwathi took photographs with fans, signed autographs and created his own kota using his favourite choice of ingredients. Patience proved to be a good strategy as the opening day saw people waiting before the launch and customers enjoying food made from scratch.
Lekgwathi stated that Grootman will represent everything that is great about kasi cuisine. “If you recall very well the freedom charter was signed here, so its a great memory for Kliptown residents. He further added that most of the people call him Grootman on social media platforms, hence the name Grootman.
The menu features a selection of dishes handpicked by Lekgwathi, including a quarter-loaf (kota) of bread hollowed out and filled again with a combination of, among others ingredients, atchaar, polony, cheese, slap chips,eggs and Russian sausage. He retired from the beautiful game back in 2014.
