City of Joburg launches the Jabulani Safe Hub

The City of Johannesburg Department of Community Development, Sports and Recreation Directorate officially launched the Jabulani Safe Hub on the 9th of September 2021 .
The Safe hub is a space where the youth in the township are assisted to address the socio economic challenges by using sports as a vehicle. The Jabulani Safe-Hub programme has a far reach as it focuses on upgrading the area’s CBD.
At the event opening Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Development, Cllr Margaret Arnolds said “the state-of-the-art hub now belongs to you. We are encouraging you as residents to safeguard this so that it benefits you as a community. Safeguard it from the social-ills of theft and vandalism. Become ‘friends of this facility’ where you protect and safeguard this property meant to benefit scores of generations from now. This should be a safe space for your children to develop and nurture their sporting talents but it should also serve as a recreational space for all”.
The Jabulani Safe-Hub has the following facilities:
• A full-size soccer artificial pitch
• Swimming pool
• Outdoor courts and gym facilities
• Kids play area and perimeter fencing.
The next phase (Phase 2) will be the construction of a community centre and administration offices.
