This year’s Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday 9 May 2021, saw the elderly in Meadowlands Old Age Home receiving a present of the presence of CoJ MMC for Health and Social Development, Ms Eunice Mgcina.
The MMC came bearing gifts, gifts of love, honour and respect for the elderly for their role as mothers prayer warriors and reliable pillars of strength in their families and community, well wishes for a good and healthy life, and blankets for the elderly women to keep the growing winter chill at bay.
he MMC expressed her delight and pleasure at being able to spend the day and share lunch with the elderly women more so since she no longer have her own parents drawing from the wisdom of African maxim that every woman who is your mother’s age is your mother. The MMC also came with the message of encouragement during this Covid-19 pandemic for the elderly at the to be registered for vaccination to help protect them from contracting the Coronavirus.
In company with the MMC were also the local ward councillor Mr Lunga Xulu of Ward 41 and Ms Margaret Koena, Director Elderly Unit, CoJ Region D. Region D covers townships in Soweto within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. In their gratitude during presentations the elderly serenaded the MMC with music and speech items.
