Go-carts riding the Crest

Kgotso Lerry Thoane is a 37 year old father of 3 who resides in the West Rand, Krugersdorp township of Kagiso. Thoane owns a go-cart company that has been running for 12 years to date. He got motivated by his wife Tlogi Thoane to establish the company while during they lunch outing at the Key West shopping centre noticed a game of go-carts and subsequently decided that she wanted to go take a fun ride. The model business research culminated into a tangible discovery, and the rest is history.

After securing funds after her pitch at the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller the couple obtained a head-start into the go-cart business. However, Mr Thoane already had a catering company that he had registered with the NPO prior the go-cart business. “I want to turn this go-cart business into a sport, before it can be recognised as one. Also, I would like Mogale entrepreneur grant aid to help me with the funds so I can grow my business so can get more go-carts”, he mentioned.

The 37 year old also mentioned that he wants to merge his go-cart business with his mobile kitchen business so that the kids can have refreshments during their fun rides. The idea is to help get the children off the street and participate in sport too. “I want to have four branches in four different provinces, between Gauteng, Botswana, North West and Mpumalanga. I want kids to compete in these ventures according to their provinces and grow the sport”, he enthused. Kgotso wants to make his go-cart business a racing game known as Bokamoso Race Club Foundation.

“I would also like the Department of Sports and Arts and Culture to help me with funding through the schooling system because I want to make this educational and fun at the same time. I also want to merge it with recreation so it becomes one unit”. He added.

Kgotso mentioned that to date, he has been running the business for nine years, and guarantees that children are always safe as they are strictly urged to regularly wear their protective gears when racing the go-carts. His confirms that he has part of the activators and change drivers from provinces like Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
